As a collective summer project, I collaborated with Jesse van Epperen through Stichting De Vrolijkheid to initiate and develop a large-scale community art project at COA AZC Leiden. The project invited all residents to participate in creating a monumental floor painting on the parking area in front of the entrance.
Using custom-made stencils, participants were able to design and paint their own contributions directly onto the ground. A grid system structured the surface, allowing the individual artworks to come together as one cohesive pattern. This approach ensured that everyone could take part, regardless of age or artistic experience.
The process fostered meaningful interaction between residents and volunteers. The designs featured positive messages, memories of home, initials of loved ones, and hopeful wishes for the future, transforming the space into a vibrant collective statement of resilience and optimism.
